Gramps Braggin Rights Boys Basketball Pre-Season Prognostications - Suburban Red Conference 9/20/2021

 This has been a roller coaster month for me.  I started working on the Pre-Season prognostications and ended up in St. Luke's hospital over the Labor Day weekend, having a major staph infection in a surgically corrected big toe.  They removed the plate in the big toe and took out about a 3" by 1" plug of infected tissue.  I have been taking antibiotics through a pick port and wearing a wound vac on the foot for about three weeks.  If some of my predictions seem a little off-beat to you, it might be the narcotics.  LOL  The toe is healing nicely and I am amazed how well it is healing.  But enough excuses.

Time for the Suburban Red Conference and it doesn't take a drug-induced mind to imagine how good Pattonville will be this year.  Kellen Thames is lighting up the fall league and Coach and Father Kelly Thames must be licking his chops for the season to begin.

I haven't heard of any changes in St. Louis Suburban Conference alignments but, the next time they re-align, Pattonville should move up to Yellow and a couple of teams in Red should move down to Green or Blue competition.  It is hard to watch some of the teams at the bottom of this conference, especially since they were looking so good a few years back.  I guess it is part of the natural cycle of talent in public schools.  Sometimes you get some great athletes and some years you are walking the halls to find guys that could play and chew gum at the same time.

West County Leadwood and Steelville - an analysis of schedules and explanation of comparative statistics

Sometimes I think I need thicker skin.  When you get into a rating of teams, the old saying from Lincoln "you can satisfy some of the people all of the time, but you cannot satisfy all of the people all of the time" or something like that.  No matter how hard I try to keep the ratings equitable, there will be a complaint, an inquiry, or a question about their team's placement. I had an inquiry this morning about class three Steelville and West County Leadwood.  The inquirer indicated that West County had made the final four and had beaten Steelville in a February game by 47-37.  I don't always respond to such questions with this much analysis but it does two things: 1) it validates my ratings and 2) it helps explain to everyone how I get to where the ratings end up. Gramps Braggin Rights Missouri Boys Class One Final Ratings 3/13/2022

 Updated 3/24/2022 Man, O, Man.  How about those Panthers of Annapolis, Missouri! I have nev/er seen a half like the first half of the South Iron and Stanberry Class One state championship game last night.  In what seemed like a close game early in the second quarter, the Panthers, behind Drenin Dinkins, exploded with 21 points to build a 20-14 game into a 41-20 route by half.  Dinkins, was on fire, hitting shots from 25 feet and driving into the lane for acrobatic floaters or dipsy-do layups.  It was literally the hot knife slicing through butter analogy.  Dinkins finished the first half with 29 of those 41 points, the second-most by a player in MSHSAA basketball history for one half.
