Edited 2/28/2022 3pm  It is the end of Black History Month but is it really?  We keep hearing about Critical Race Theory and these wackos that don't want to teach our kids and grandkids about any history that might embarrass their children.  Well, get this... we only learn from our past and our past included enslaved black folk who were brought to this land with no choice but to slave away their life working in a rice field or under even harsher conditions on a sugar plantation.   You could say that America was built on the backs of people of color and now we have forgotten them.  We don't want to be disturbed or embarrassed by this very real truth.  America is great because of slavery, as repulsive as that sounds.  So we cannot forget our past.  We must study it and learn from it. What is weighting and when do you use it? Comparing Eureka, Lindbergh, Lafayette and Marquette 2092022

What is weighting and when do you use it?  I haven't heard from any Lindbergh fans about Monday's Greater Metro Boy's Basketball ratings where Eureka, who has lost three close games to Lindbergh, is rated slightly better than the Flyers.  Why would I do that?  Not because I am their unofficial statistician and have a bias towards the Wildcats.  No, it has to do with season performance, as much as head-to-head competition.  You can find all of my rating blogs HERE This is where statistically modeling team ratings becomes somewhat judgemental and it isn't just Lindbergh and Eureka ratings.  There are approximately 525 girl's teams and 540 boy's teams and there are instances similar to the Flyer-Wildcat scenario in every class of schools.  If I just used raw ratings (the average of every game outcome) and did not put some weight on who defeated whom, the model would not be as good.  So I have to take into account both seasonal performance (consistency against all

As I mentioned in the Girls post, I am packing for a pacemaker procedure this afternoon at St. Luke's so I will keep this short. How about the MCC conference?  They usually have three teams in the top ten area schools but four?  And the worst team in the Metro Catholic Conference, Vianney, is ranked 11th in the area.  Tough league with great teams.  Hats off to the MCC teams! I have made a few updates on the top teams but need to add some additional late January games for some of the lower teams.  It is really difficult to rate these top teams statistically when they keep knocking each other off from night to night.  It is not like, team A beats team B, team B beats team C and they are in rank order.  No, they make it difficult for me with team A beats team B, team B beats team C and then, team C beats team A.  Makes life difficult for this old statistician. So here are my large and small Greater Metro St. Louis area schools.  I include schools that are an hour drive from Busch St
