The GAC - Suburban Challenge at Lindenwood University - 12/13/2021

 The Gateway Athletic Conference and Suburban St. Louis teams square off at Lindenwood University, starting tonight and going through next Saturday.  There are a bunch of great match-ups and there will be some nail-biters, as the teams have been matched up to provide competitive games.

Both conferences have some great teams and this challenge should have some exciting games.  If you get a chance, head out to Lindenwood and see some great basketball.

 I talked about MLK yesterday and then found this YouTube video of James Taylor's "Shed a little Light" by the Maccabeats and Naturally 7 singing the song in front of Lincoln's Memorial.  It is a stirring performance and tribute to Martin Luther King and worth watching HERE . So, lately, I have been trying to shed a little light on Missouri class four boys basketball teams.  Part of my problem was with Vashon, a team that is always seemingly on top of their class, and even one of the best teams in all of Missouri.  The problem has to do with rating the teams on their schedule....  Nationally ranked teams from across the United States.  Makes it difficult because rating all of their opponents requires diving down another deep rabbit hole to rate those teams before I can assign a rating for the Wolverines.  I often have to wait until mid-January, after they have played more local teams, to get an accurate rating of Vashon. What makes a great feeder program?

 I recently published an interview with Smithville head basketball coach Eric Bennaka, who talked about how he was trying to change the culture in the school and town and build a more successful basketball program.  I thought that Eric had some great points and it was worthwhile to share on the blog.  Check it out HERE . Since then, I saw some Tweets about the Eureka Wildcat feeder program skill nights.     The Eureka Jr Wildcat feeder program is run by Matt Benz as part of the Eureka Basketball Booster Club which helps sponsor the program.   The program is run under the careful eye of Eureka boys head coach Austin Kirby, and James Alsup, Eureka girls head coach, who are the chief architects of the program.    It is a great success story and, again, a worthwhile read.  I have watched both the girls and boys Eureka high school teams for about six years and have always been impressed with the teamwork and cohesiveness of the team...

Gramps Braggin Rights Boys Basketball Pre-Season Prognostications - Suburban Red Conference 9/20/2021

 This has been a roller coaster month for me.  I started working on the Pre-Season prognostications and ended up in St. Luke's hospital over the Labor Day weekend, having a major staph infection in a surgically corrected big toe.  They removed the plate in the big toe and took out about a 3" by 1" plug of infected tissue.  I have been taking antibiotics through a pick port and wearing a wound vac on the foot for about three weeks.  If some of my predictions seem a little off-beat to you, it might be the narcotics.  LOL  The toe is healing nicely and I am amazed how well it is healing.  But enough excuses. Time for the Suburban Red Conference and it doesn't take a drug-induced mind to imagine how good Pattonville will be this year.  Kellen Thames is lighting up the fall league and Coach and Father Kelly Thames must be licking his chops for the season to begin.
