Most Improved Missouri Boys Basketball teams by Rating and by Rank - April 29, 2022

 The dust has settled on the 2021-2022 Boys and Girls Missouri basketball play-offs and the trophies have been proudly displayed in a spot in the school trophy case.  Older trophies and plaques have been moved around to make room for the new hardware.  But some of the best teams in Missouri will not be recognized.

By best teams, I am talking about the most improved teams in the state.  How do we get at which teams are the most improved, you ask?  Well, I keep the older Gramp's Braggin' Rights ratings in my electronic file and I can compare this past season to the previous season.  And that is what I did....  I looked at the rating from 2020-2021 and the 2021-2022 season to see how much a team improved or worsened from last season to this season.   I also looked at their rank last year compared to this past season.

What does that tell me?  It tells me some schools and coaches worked real hard to make their schools better.  Maybe they were lucky enough to get a good crop of athletes or maybe they made positive changes in their program which helped them demonstrably improve their on-court performance.  Of course, without Gramp's ratings, we could never measure this improvement.  

So start the drum roll and get out the oldest plaque or trophy in your school trophy case and change the nameplate:  GRAMP'S MOST IMPROVED TEAM IN MISSOURI 2021-2022

Here's the boy's list.  I have listed the top 50 in the first chart.  All 550 teams are listed in an eye chart below that.  For those masochists, you can check the worst teams at the bottom on that second list.  And if you are down there, baby, it's time to rethink your basketball program.

The ranking in the left column is an improvement in rating from last year to this year.  The righthand column lists most improved teams based on their ranking in the 550 boy's teams from last to this year.  I will try to get the girl's most improved out in another blog.


Congrats to Ash Grove, Bloomfield, Tarkio, STEAM, Senaca, Maryville, Versailles, Maysville, Kingston, Lone Jack, Seymour and Richland for getting their act together this past winter.

 Who's showing up tonight?  That might be a coach's biggest worry from one game to another.  Will the team respond to the coaching this week?  Will the players give their best effort?  Will the team perform as expected? Those are some questions that are hard to answer for a group of boys between 15 and 18 years of age.  How well will they all perform in a game in which the opponent's coaching staff has been working to defend against your strengths and take opportunities with your team's weaknesses to win the game?  Gramps Braggin' Rights Missouri Boy's Class Four Basketball Ratings by District - 2/10/2021 As I stated earlier, I am not fully caught up on all teams in all classes but with district seeding meetings (some have already occurred) and tournaments right around the corner, I am posting what I have.  Here are the Class Four boys ratings by district and my comments about each district: District 1: Take New Madrid County Central over Cape Notre Dame and run. District 2:  Jobe Bryant and the Park Hill Central Rebels dominate. District 3:  St. James edges Owensville District 4: Confluence Academy spoils another Cinderella run by Lift for Life. Gramps Braggin Rights Missouri Boys Class One Final Ratings 3/13/2022

 Updated 3/24/2022 Man, O, Man.  How about those Panthers of Annapolis, Missouri! I have nev/er seen a half like the first half of the South Iron and Stanberry Class One state championship game last night.  In what seemed like a close game early in the second quarter, the Panthers, behind Drenin Dinkins, exploded with 21 points to build a 20-14 game into a 41-20 route by half.  Dinkins, was on fire, hitting shots from 25 feet and driving into the lane for acrobatic floaters or dipsy-do layups.  It was literally the hot knife slicing through butter analogy.  Dinkins finished the first half with 29 of those 41 points, the second-most by a player in MSHSAA basketball history for one half.
