Gramps Braggin Rights Boys Basketball Pre-season Prognostications - Metro Conference 9/18/21

 Today's focus is on the Metro Conference with MICDS, Westminster Academy, Priory, John Burroughs, Lutheran North and Lutheran South and Principia.

MICDS has dominated of late but a late season upset by Westminster launched the Westminster into a long playoff run and a runner-up trophy to Vashon in class four.

Westminster brings back nearly the entire team with 93% of their scoring returning and they will be the odds on favorite to win the Metro League and potentially another shot at a state championship.

I will be especially interested to see how coach Peewee Lenard handles the John Burrough team, one with a lot of potential, that could really blossom under Peewee's detailed eye and demand for excellence.  A real coach's coach, Peewee was an assistant for the Brad Beal 17U national runner-up EYBL, coached by former Burrough's coach Corey Frazier.  Peewee has developed some great kids in his St. Louis Magic program and I hope the Burroughs kids will respond and destroy my projection.

All of my predictions are statistically-based upon a mathematical model with VPS, defensive points allowed, point differential and returnee scoring.  See my Intro for more info.

 Updated 3/24/2022 Man, O, Man.  How about those Panthers of Annapolis, Missouri! I have nev/er seen a half like the first half of the South Iron and Stanberry Class One state championship game last night.  In what seemed like a close game early in the second quarter, the Panthers, behind Drenin Dinkins, exploded with 21 points to build a 20-14 game into a 41-20 route by half.  Dinkins, was on fire, hitting shots from 25 feet and driving into the lane for acrobatic floaters or dipsy-do layups.  It was literally the hot knife slicing through butter analogy.  Dinkins finished the first half with 29 of those 41 points, the second-most by a player in MSHSAA basketball history for one half. Missouri Boys and Girls Combined Basketball Ratings - What school has the best overall basketball program? 3/10/2022

 There are a whole lot of rivalries in the state of Missouri basketball for both boys and girls, but I only know a handful of these rivalries.  I know of a few in St. Louis and a few outstate.   Out in West County, the Rockwood schools of Eureka, Marquette, and Lafayette go at it in both boys and girls sports, like life depends on it.  Kirkwood and Webster Groves have that same kind of rivalry.  Down in the southwest part of the state, Kickapoo and Nixa have a fierce rivalry. You can sense the rivalry in Twitter feeds.  Shots are fired across the bow from one school to another and back.  It reminds me of the tales of the War of 1812 where the US and British warships would blast each other with cannonball after cannonball until the masts were broken and the ships were on fire.  It didn't matter how badly your ship was damaged as long as the enemy's ship was sinking.  Those are the kind of rivalries that occur across the nation in small an...

 Gramps Braggin' Rights Missouri Boy's Class Four Basketball Ratings by District - 2/10/2021 As I stated earlier, I am not fully caught up on all teams in all classes but with district seeding meetings (some have already occurred) and tournaments right around the corner, I am posting what I have.  Here are the Class Four boys ratings by district and my comments about each district: District 1: Take New Madrid County Central over Cape Notre Dame and run. District 2:  Jobe Bryant and the Park Hill Central Rebels dominate. District 3:  St. James edges Owensville District 4: Confluence Academy spoils another Cinderella run by Lift for Life. District 5: How do you spell Domination...?  V-A-S-H-O-N District 6: MICDS and Whitfield could play three OTs to decide this.  I can't, you can flip your own coin.  Brandon Mitchell-Day might be the difference-maker here.
