 I previewed the Delta-Platte Valley/South Noda/Jefferson with Conception game and thought it was a tale of two styles.   A run and gun offense with trapping defense for easy baskets for Delta.  They ran over teams with 82 points and 31 points allowed, respectively.  I expected Platte Valley (or whatever their name....  I will get to that, too) to run a patient offensive set and they put up 55 points per game and gave up only 25 points per game.  I had Delta with a slight edge but Platte Valley proved me wrong.  While I did not watch the game, Platte Valley, with their patient offense and sound defense, Platte Valley started edging away from a Delta in the second half.

It is a classic battle of styles and usually, the hard-nosed defense and patient half-court offensive sets will win more games than the run and gun offense and half or three-quarter press.  When a patient offense faces a 2-2-1 trapping defense, they get the ball over the halfcourt without losing possession and then proceed to score.  And that is what appeared to happen.  DEFENSE WINS GAMES.

Finally,  I wish someone could explain to me what is going on with the name?  MSHSAA refers to the team as South Noda with  Jefferson (Conception).  The High School prefers to be called Platte Valley.  I get confused looking for them in the scorebook. Platte Valley has another feather in their cap and maybe the start of an empire.

 Who's showing up tonight?  That might be a coach's biggest worry from one game to another.  Will the team respond to the coaching this week?  Will the players give their best effort?  Will the team perform as expected? Those are some questions that are hard to answer for a group of boys between 15 and 18 years of age.  How well will they all perform in a game in which the opponent's coaching staff has been working to defend against your strengths and take opportunities with your team's weaknesses to win the game?  Updated 3/24/2022 Man, O, Man.  How about those Panthers of Annapolis, Missouri! I have nev/er seen a half like the first half of the South Iron and Stanberry Class One state championship game last night.  In what seemed like a close game early in the second quarter, the Panthers, behind Drenin Dinkins, exploded with 21 points to build a 20-14 game into a 41-20 route by half.  Dinkins, was on fire, hitting shots from 25 feet and driving into the lane for acrobatic floaters or dipsy-do layups.  It was literally the hot knife slicing through butter analogy.  Dinkins finished the first half with 29 of those 41 points, the second-most by a player in MSHSAA basketball history for one half.  Gramps Braggin' Rights Missouri Boy's Class Four Basketball Ratings by District - 2/10/2021 As I stated earlier, I am not fully caught up on all teams in all classes but with district seeding meetings (some have already occurred) and tournaments right around the corner, I am posting what I have.  Here are the Class Four boys ratings by district and my comments about each district: District 1: Take New Madrid County Central over Cape Notre Dame and run. District 2:  Jobe Bryant and the Park Hill Central Rebels dominate. District 3:  St. James edges Owensville District 4: Confluence Academy spoils another Cinderella run by Lift for Life. District 5: How do you spell Domination...?  V-A-S-H-O-N District 6: MICDS and Whitfield could play three OTs to decide this.  I can't, you can flip your own coin.  Brandon Mitchell-Day might be the difference-maker here.
